COCOA STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL IN ECUADOR

This effort is an ongoing project undertaken by three of Urbana’s senior consultants for the Export Promotion Development Agency named Corpei  and the  IDB (Fomin Program).  The contract is to generate a data collection system and a strategic plan,  at  the  national level, including 8 provinces on the Ecuadorian coast and other low lands. The  study  is   a major effort funded by IDB and Assistance Preparation Credit Program for  promoting the export built capacity of the Ecuadorian Cocoa.

The assignment includes a  comprehensive plan, to generate statistics of the whole food chain and  commercialization  cycle (production,  commercialization, industrialization, exports).  The study is part of a National Strategy Program for Corpei, in order to improve     the export capacity,  and balance of    payments in Ecuador. The  results  from   the   studies define an action agenda for all involved actors (private and public, NGO etc..)    in   the urban and rural sectors.  Also a detailed program of investment was   to   be   included   in  the exports agenda 2008-2012 in Ecuador.
