RESEARCH AND POLICY FORMULATION: HOUSING NEEDS ASSESSMENT FOR ECUADOR 1988-2008

The housing sector faces a critical situation, due to the impact of high   inflation   rates  on   construction materials.  This situation has limited even more  the   accessibility   of  the impoverished, to these materials.  To carry out this study, a computerized evaluatory model was designed.  Using demographic, macroeconomic, income,    and    housing    stock data, several   schematic proposals  were  analyzed  in   accordance to various housing standard alternatives.

URBANA designed an econometric model to predict housing demand and supply, with the purpose of enabling improved and consistent future evaluations.  Such a model has  proven to be a highly useful instrument, for the formulation of housing policies.
